    Curfew partially lifted, 6 rioters killed | ActionPunjab


    Haldwani violence: Authorities lifted a curfew on Saturday in the town’s outskirts, two days after restrictions were imposed due to communal tensions and violence erupted during a demolition drive. Officials reported that six rioters were killed during Thursday’s violence. 

    However, the curfew will remain in effect in the Banbhoolpura area, where massive violence occurred. The police have also suspended internet services in violence-hit Haldwani.

    Haldwani violence IN POINTS

    Five people have been arrested so far and 19 others have been identified, with three FIRs filed for violence. The FIR also names another 5,000 people, according to PN Meena, Senior Superintendent of Police in Nainital.

    The police have stated that the situation in Haldwani is under control. The curfew in Banbhoolpura remains in effect, and CCTV footage is being reviewed.

    While shops on the outskirts of Haldwani reopened on Saturday, all schools and colleges will remain closed, officials stated.

    Responding to the incident, Samajwadi Party MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav stated, “Minorities are being tortured in the entire country. So, if this would happen then the public will come out on the streets.”

    Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami went to the violence-hit area to assess the situation. 

    Dhami condemned the attack and stated that the process of identifying all miscreants involved in the incident and pursuing legal action against them is underway. “All the video footage and footprints of those who have broken the law and damaged government property are available.”
