PTC Web Desk: In the most recent update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is anticipated to experience clear skies on Saturday, accompanied by morning mist. The capital city witnessed a maximum temperature of 24.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 6 degrees on Friday, and similar temperatures are expected on Saturday. The IMD bulletin also highlights the persistence of cold wave conditions in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
Besides, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal encountered cold wave conditions on Friday. Ground frost prevailed in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Thursday, disrupting normal life, particularly in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, where widespread snowfall occurred. The cold wave has intensified in Kashmir and Ladakh, with Sonamarg experiencing night temperatures plummeting to a freezing minus 22 degrees Celsius.
Looking ahead, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha are expected to witness light rainfall from Saturday until February 14 due to the influence of a cyclonic circulation over central parts of the country. Other states likely to be affected by this weather activity include Odisha, Bihar, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal, lasting until at least February 15.
Heading south, isolated rainfall was predicted in Andhra Pradesh on Friday, while Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala are forecasted to experience downpours from Saturday onward.
According to the IMD, there will be no significant change in minimum temperatures over parts of northwest, east, and central India in the next two days. However, a subsequent rise of 2–3 degrees is expected thereafter.
In temperature extremes on Friday, Sikar, Rajasthan, recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 2.7 degrees, while Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh registered the highest maximum temperature at 38.5 degrees.
