BRS leader K Kavitha declines CBI summons, citing SC petition | ActionPunjab

ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: K Kavitha, a prominent figure in the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, has communicated to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) her inability to appear for questioning regarding the alleged liquor policy scam. In her letter, she highlighted existing “pressing” public commitments and a pending petition in the Supreme Court as reasons for her absence.

This marks the second instance where Kavitha has chosen to forego CBI summons. Previously, she was interrogated by the agency in December 2022. Last March, she sought relief from Enforcement Directorate questioning through an appeal to the Supreme Court, which subsequently granted her temporary immunity from interrogation until a verdict is reached.

The current summons issued by the CBI under Section 41A of the CrPC suggests potential consequences, including arrest, for non-compliance. Kavitha expressed confusion over the rationale behind the summons under this section, particularly considering her earlier cooperation under Section 160 Cr.P.C.

In her letter, she emphasised her lack of involvement in the accusations and asserted that the ongoing legal proceedings render her assistance unnecessary for the CBI. She cited the sub-judice nature of the case as grounds for her decision to abstain from further participation in the investigative process.
