ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk : Alert for commuters travelling from Jalandhar to Delhi as members of the All-India Trucker Operators’ Union and five labour organisations issued a call to block the National Highway and to hold a protest on both sides of the Phillaur highway on March 7 i.e. today.
Those travelling from Punjab to Delhi may face significant disruptions as Punjab Trucker Operators’ Union declared the complete closure of the main highway and routes from Jalandhar to Delhi.
Meanwhile, a call for protest is also scheduled to take place at the Ladowal Toll Plaza leading to a complete closure of the National Highway. President of All-India Truck Operators’ Union have also given a call for the closure of both the roads of the Sutlej river.
The protest leading to closure of several roads and national highways will take place from 12 noon to 4 pm.
The All-India Trucker Operators’ Union and five labour organizations are protesting over the unfulfilled demands which include the issuance of tenders to truck unions, the reimbursement of securities paid during tendering over the past 15 years, and an increase in transport rates due to no rate adjustments in the last seven years.
They also demanded that the use of tractor-trailers for commercial purposes and for the implementation of High Court orders regarding this matter and demanded an end to vehicle overloading and proposed that toll plazas impose a tenfold toll tax on any overloaded vehicles.
