Banwarilal Purohit says he resigned due to personal reasons, but urged to stay back | ActionPunjab

PTC Web Desk: Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Purohit on Thursday said his recent resignation was driven by personal reasons, emphasising his family and individual commitments. However, he said the authorities urged him to remain in his position. Addessing mediapersons, Purohit discussed his various initiatives as Chandigarh Administrator and clarified that his resignation was based solely on personal and familial considerations.

Despite tendering his resignation, Banwarilal Purohit said the authorities declined to accept it, insisting that he continue his duties. He pointed out the heartfelt reasons behind his decision, highlighting his family’s absence and his responsibilities as the international vice president of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, a role he has held since establishing the Nagpur centre in 1984.

The Governor had submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu last month, citing personal reasons and other commitments. Appointed as Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator in August 2021, Purohit shared insights into his tenure, emphasising the significant progress made during the past two-and-a-half years. He commended the dedicated team of Chandigarh UT officers, expressing confidence in their capabilities.

Regarding the disruption of his address to the Punjab Assembly on March 1, where Congress legislators raised concerns about protesting farmers, Purohit advocated for efficient utilisation of the House’s time. He encouraged Congress members to listen to his address before engaging in a healthy debate.

Reflecting on Chandigarh’s advancements, Purohit highlighted achievements in the Swachh Sarvekshan, where the city rose from 66th to 11th rank. He pledged to further improve rankings in the coming years. Chandigarh’s accomplishments spanned water management, smart cities, mobility projects, and energy efficiency, establishing it as a leader among Union Territories. Purohit concluded by affirming Chandigarh’s superiority in e-governance initiatives.
