Who is Nazim, Kashmir man with whom PM Modi clicked selfie? | Action Punjab

ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a selfie on Thursday with Nazim, whom he described as a ‘friend’ who impressed him with his work. This was the PM’s first Kashmir visit after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Taking to X, PM Modi said “At the public meeting he requested a selfie and was happy to meet him. My best wishes for his future endeavours.”

    Who is Nazim Nazir?

Nazim, the owner of Al Nahal Honey, is a Viksit Bharat programme beneficiary who met with Prime Minister Modi at the Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Kashmir event. During the interaction, Pulwama’s Nazim talked about his journey as an entrepreneur dealing with honey, which began in 2018 when he was in the 10 grade. Nazim informed Prime Minister Modi that he kept two boxes of bees on the roof, and everything began from there. As his interest in beekeeping grew, he began researching it online.

“In 2019, I approached the government and received a 50% subsidy for 25 boxes of bees. I extracted 75 kg of honey. I began selling honey in villages and earned ₹60,000. It grew from 25 to 200 boxes before I sought assistance from PMEGP (Prime Ministers Employment Generation Programme). Nazim received ₹5 lakh through the scheme and launched his website in 2020.

After his brand gained recognition, Nazim stated that he sold 5,000kg of honey in 2023. Nazim now employs at least 100 people, and his company has received an FPO (Follow ON Public Offer).

As the event progressed, PM Narendra Modi asked him what he wanted to be when he was younger. Nazim stated that his parents wanted him to become a doctor or an engineer, but he preferred to do something else. “Your family recognised your potential. You could have become a doctor, but you did not pursue that path. And by doing so, you sparked Kashmir’s sweet revolution. Many congratulations,” PM Modi stated.
