BJP raises queries regarding TMC’s selection of Yusuf Pathan as candidate from West Bengal | Action Punjab

ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised objections to the Trinamool Congress’ selection of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, alleging that the Mamata Banerjee-led party is resorting to importing candidates from outside the state. Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar expressed concerns over the inclusion of non-Bengali candidates like Kirti Azad and Yusuf Pathan in the TMC’s candidate list.

Majumdar highlighted the contradiction between TMC’s earlier rhetoric of BJP being anti-Bengal and their subsequent nomination of candidates not native to the state. He pointed out that while Pathan hails from Gujarat, the same state as Prime Minister Modi, the TMC sees Modi as an outsider. Majumdar also criticised TMC’s choice of candidates, claiming that the party lacks suitable contenders for the Lok Sabha elections.

Furthermore, Majumdar accused the TMC of using actresses and sitting ministers as candidates out of fear of nurturing potential leaders who could overshadow Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee within the party. He referred to the INDIA alliance as a ship without a captain, suggesting that the TMC’s strategy is driven by Mamata Banerjee’s desire to maintain control over the party leadership.

In response, the Trinamool Congress has nominated former cricketer Yusuf Pathan as its candidate from Baharampur, a seat currently held by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress. Chowdhury criticized the TMC for choosing Pathan over local candidates, suggesting that if the TMC truly wanted to honor Pathan, they should have nominated him for a Rajya Sabha seat instead.

Chowdhury accused Mamata Banerjee of selecting Pathan to polarize voters and weaken the Congress’s position in West Bengal. He suggested that Banerjee’s decision to contest the elections alone indicates her reluctance to confront the BJP head-on, fearing repercussions from Prime Minister Modi.

Mamata Banerjee’s decision to contest the elections independently has shattered the Congress party’s hopes for an alliance in West Bengal, further complicating the political landscape in the state.
