Centre to notify CAA rules soon: Sources | Action Punjab

ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is likely to announce the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 regulations on Monday evening, according to sources.

The Narendra Modi government’s CAA rules seek to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014.

After Parliament’s passage of the CAA in December 2019 and following Presidential assent, significant protests erupted across the country.

According to sources familiar with the situation, “the regulations for the CAA could be announced by today”.

According to an official, the CAA law can be implemented by issuing an MHA notification, which will allow eligible individuals to obtain Indian citizenship.

The CAA, which has been delayed for over four years, requires the drafting of associated rules.

“The regulations are prepared, and an online portal is already set up for the entire process, which will be conducted digitally. Applicants will need to disclose the year of their entry into India without any travel documents. No additional documentation will be required from the applicants,” an official said.
