ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: BJP leader Nayab Singh Saini took the oath as the new Chief Minister of Haryana on Tuesday. However, one party leader’s absence from the hastily set up ceremony sparked debate.
Anil Vij, Haryana’s former Home Minister and a senior BJP leader, did not attend the oath taking ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. Vij had also left the BJP legislature party meeting midway. While the BJP leadership, including former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, attempted to calm him down, Vij refused and left the meeting in his private vehicle to return to his home in Ambala.
While the swearing-in ceremony was taking place at Raj Bhavan, a video of Vij playing with his brother’s granddaughter surfaced on social media. A group of his supporters gathered at his home in Ambala. He spoke briefly to the media there and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Vij was also spotted eating golgappas at Ambala’s Galaxy Mall on Tuesday evening.
Furthermore, the BJP leader changed his Twitter bio to Ex-Home and Health Minister, Haryana.
Why Anil Vij is upset?
After Nayab Singh Saini took oath as Haryana Chief Minister, former CM Manohar Lal Khattar said Anil Vij was upset about being dropped from the new Cabinet. He added that newly appointed Chief Minister Nayab Saini will speak with him.
“Anil Vij is our senior leader…He gets upset easily but quickly becomes okay. Similar incidents have occurred in the past. He is upset, but we are speaking with him…Our new chief minister will also speak with him,” Khattar added.

Notably, Vij did not find a place in the new Cabinet led by Nayab Singh Saini. Vij’s omission was surprising given that there had been speculation that he would be one of two deputy chief ministers appointed by the BJP after Dushyant Chautala of the Jannayak Janta Party vacated the position.
The Indian Express, citing BJP sources, said that Vij was unhappy with Saini’s selection as chief minister and voted against it at the Legislature Party.
