Army Major, soldiers attacked by dhaba workers in Punjab; here’s what happened | Action Punjab

ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: In a shocking incident, an Indian Army Major and his teams of 16 soldiers were reportedly brutally attacked by dhaba workers in Punjab. The Major and some jawans suffered severe injuries.

According to reports, the owner and the workers of a dhaba thrashed an Army Major and soldiers who were returning from winning a snow marathon. The incident occurred on the Manali-Ropar road in Punjab on Monday. The police filed a FIR at Kiratpur Sahib police station and arrested two accused.

    What happened?

According to the FIR filed early Tuesday morning, Major Sachin Singh Kuntal and his troops from the Ladakh Scouts were returning from Palchan near Himachal Pradesh’s Manali after winning a snow marathon.

The soldiers, who were on their way to Chandimandir, stopped at the Alpine dhaba near Bharatgarh in the Ropar district for dinner around 9.15 p.m., according to the police. However, there was an altercation between the soldiers and the dhaba owner over the mode of payment for the bill, as he refused to accept payment via UPI and insisted on cash payment to avoid taxes.

Despite the soldiers paying the bill online, the owner insisted on cash payment, resulting in a continuing altercation. When the Major refused, a group of 30-35 people attacked the officer and his jawans, attacking them with lathis, sticks, and iron rods, according to police.

The accused fled the scene after Major sustained serious injuries to his arms and head and became unconscious. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital Ropar for treatment.

A case has been filed under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, being armed with a deadly weapon) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Two arrested accused have been identified as Rajneesh alias Himanshu from Punjab’s Rajpura and  Uttar Pradesh’s Tanay. Meanwhile, others including the dhaba owner are absconding.
