ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: The Election Commission of India on Thursday uploaded the electoral bonds data shared by the State Bank of India (SBI) on its website. The development comes one day before the Supreme Court’s deadline.
The data covers bond purchases in three denominations (₹ 1 lakh, ₹ 10 lakh, and ₹ 1 crore) from April 12, 2019, and includes both individual and company purchases.
The EC’s website contains two lists. The first is a list of companies that purchased electoral bonds, along with their denominations and dates. The other includes the names of the political parties, the denominations of the bonds, and the dates on which they were cashed. There is no way to correlate the lists and determine which company or individual donated to which party.
The poll body announced the release of the data in a statement, saying, “The Election Commission of India has today uploaded the data on electoral bonds on its website as received from SBI on a ‘as is where is basis'”.
“It may be recalled that in the said matter, ECI has consistently and categorically weighed in favour of disclosure and transparency, a position reflected in the proceedings of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and noted in the order also,” the statement read.
