Covid-19 spike: As per the reports of Union health ministry, India reported 628 fresh Covid-19 infections, bringing the number of active caseload to 4,054.
As per the data, the total fatalities were recorded at 5,33,334 (5.33 lakh) with one new death reported from Kerala in the previous 24 hours. The country’s Covid case tally is currently at 4,50,09,248 (4.50 crore).
As per the data by health ministry, Kerala reported 128 new Covid-19 cases ; Karnataka with 73 new cases ; Maharashtra with 50 fresh cases; Rajasthan with 11, Telangana with 8 and Tamil Nadu with 9 new cases.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently classified JN.1 as a variant of interest, distinct from its parent lineage BA.2.86. However, the global health body emphasised that the overall risk posed by JN.1 remains low based on current evidence.
Due to its rapidly increasing spread, WHO is classifying the variant JN.1 as a separate variant of interest (VOI) from the parent lineage BA.2.86. It was previously classified as VOI as part of BA.2.86 sublineages

Do’s
- Always remember to wear mask in crowded and public places
- Doctors, paramedics and other healthcare workers as well as patients and their attendants to wear masks within healthcare facilities.
- Cover nose and mouth with handkerchief and tissue while sneezing and coughing
- Practice hand washing. Wash hands with soap and water or use alcohol based hand rub.
- Limit personal contact if suffering from respiratory diseases.
- See a doctor if you feel unwell (fever, cough, difficulty in breathing etc.).
Don’ts
- Avoid overcrowded and poorly ventilated settings particularly by co- morbid persons and the elderly.
- Don’t Spit at public places .
- Avoid Touching surfaces usually used by public (Railing, door, gate).
