India requests Pakistan to extradite 26/11 attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed | Action Punjab

New Delhi: As per the Ministry of External Affairs, India officially requested Pakistan to extradite 26/11 attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed from Pakistan to face trial in a specific case. The extradition appeal was accompanied by all necessary supporting documents.

During a weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi expressed concern over Pakistan’s mainstreaming of radical outfits, including allowing Hafiz Saeed’s son to participate in elections.

Bagchi emphasised that such actions have serious security implications for the region, and India continues to closely monitor the situation.

Notably, Saeed, who is a UN-proscribed terrorist is the founder of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). He was the mastermind of the deadly 26/11 attacks in Mumbai and is wanted in India in numerous cases.

While Saeed has been in jail since July 2019, his political entity, the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML), has controversially fielded candidates for every national and provincial assembly constituency in the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024.

Hafiz Saeed’s son, Talha Saeed, is set to contest from NA-127, Lahore, while PMML’s central president, Khalid Masood Sindhu, will participate from NA-130 against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
