    Delhi airport faces flight delays due to low visibility amid fog | Action Punjab


    New Delhi, January 04: Amidst prevailing cold wave conditions in north India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported very dense fog covering states including Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Tripura on Thursday.

    Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Bihar experienced a thick blanket of fog, with Madhya Pradesh and Tripura facing dense fog. Moderate fog was observed over Jammu division. The cold wave persisted, impacting visibility and leading to delayed flight operations at Delhi airport.

    As of 5:30 am, visibility varied between 25 to 500 meters in different regions. Bareilly and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh recorded visibility at 25 meters, while Prayagraj and Varanasi recorded 50 meters. Delhi’s Safdarjung and Palam areas recorded 500 and 700 meters respectively. In Rajasthan, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Kota, and Jaipur experienced visibility ranging from 25 to 50 meters. Bihar’s Gaya and Purnea reported 25 meters, while Patna recorded 200 meters.

    ‘Very dense’ fog, defined by visibility between 0 and 50 meters, persisted, causing disruptions in transportation. The cold wave conditions also led to the closure of schools for students up to Class 8 in Noida and Greater Noida until January 6. The weather department forecasts that over the next two days, east India will witness no significant change in minimum temperatures, followed by a subsequent rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius. In Central India, minimum temperatures are expected to increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next three days, with no significant change thereafter. The dense fog and coldwave conditions continue to impact normal life in various parts of the country.
