    Noida schools shut till Jan 14 due to dense fog and cold wave | ActionPunjab


    Delhi-NCR shivers: Biting cold gripped several places of Northern and North-eastern parts of the country especially in Delhi, NCR and nearby areas as temperature dropped to minus Celsius and a dense layer of fog has engulfed the city which resulted in very low visibility, affected normal life and delayed flight operations. 

    Due to the prevailing fog and dense cold wave conditions in Northern India, the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration has directed all schools in Noida and Greater Noida to declare a holiday for students up to Class 8 until January 14.

    The directive, issued by District Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar, is applicable to schools recognized by the state board, CBSE, ICSE, IB, and other educational boards.

    The order reads, “In compliance with the instructions given by District Magistrate Maneesh Kumar Verma in view of the dense fog and extreme cold, all the board (CBSE/ICSE IB, UP Board and others) affiliated schools (from Class nursery to 8) running in the district Gautam Buddh Nagar, will observe holiday till January 14.”

    In Noida and Greater Noida, minimum temperatures have been dropped to 9 degrees Celsius and are anticipated to range between 9 and 13 degrees Celsius over the upcoming six days.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued a cold wave and fog warning for western Uttar Pradesh, which includes Gautam Buddh Nagar.

    The transport services, including flights and trains, continue to face disruptions due to the heavy fog, resulting in multiple cancellations and delays. The Delhi airport experienced delays in both arrivals and departures including international due to dense fog.

    How cold wave affect your health? 

    Cold wave and dense fog contains particulate matter and other pollutants and in case exposed it gets lodged in the lungs, clogging them and decreasing their functional capacity which increases episodes of wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath. The fog conditions may tend to irritate the membranes of the eye causing various infections leading to redness or swelling of the eye.
