    Plane carrying workers down in Canada’s far north | Action Punjab


    ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: In a devastating incident, a small commuter plane carrying mine workers crashed in Canada’s far north, resulting in six fatalities and one survivor. The tragedy unfolded shortly after the aircraft took off from Fort Smith at approximately 8:50 am local time, losing contact with authorities. 

    The crash site, located 1.1 kilometers from the runway’s end, saw immediate response from military and federal police, aided by Canadian Rangers on snowmobiles and search and rescue technicians parachuting from a Hercules aircraft.

    The survivor’s condition remains undisclosed, and the town’s hospital activated its mass casualty protocol. Chief coroner Garth Eggerberger confirmed fatalities without specifying details. The airline, Northwestern Air, identified the aircraft as a Jetstream twin turboprop on a charter flight to a mine.

    All flights from Fort Smith have been suspended until Wednesday, and Canada’s Transportation Safety Board has dispatched a team to investigate the tragic incident. The tight-knit community mourns the loss, grappling with the aftermath of this unforeseen disaster.
