ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: A 32-year-old engineer from Nashik was arrested today by Maharashtra’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly supporting and funding the proscribed terror organisation ISIS, according to an official.
The Maharashtra ATS has uncovered “international links to ISIS support and funding” with the arrest of the man, who runs an import-export business in the city about 200 kilometres from Mumbai.
According to the official, investigations so far have revealed that the accused transferred funds to the dreaded global terrorist organisation three times.
He stated that some of the accused’s associates are under investigation in multiple states.
Based on specific information, the ATS charged the accused with violating relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and a team from the state police’s anti-terror wing has been monitoring his activities for several days, according to the official.
During the investigation, the ATS found that the accused was in constant touch with a foreign entity associated with ISIS, according to a statement.
The engineer-turned-businessman, who had shown signs of radicalization in recent years, actively supported ISIS by transferring money to a foreign entity, according to the statement.
The ATS searched and seized electronic devices such as mobile phones, SIM cards, a laptop, a pen drive, and incriminating documents, according to the report.
The accused was arrested following interrogation and brought before a court, which sentenced him to ATS custody until January 31, according to the official.
