    Mary Kom hung her boxing gloves as the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) rules allow male and female boxers to fight in elite-level competition only till the age of 40.

     
    During an event, Mary Kom 41, admitted that she still has the hunger to compete at the elite level, but she has to bring curtains down on her career because of the age limit.

    “I have the hunger still but unfortunately because of the age limit it is over I cannot compete in any competition. I want to play more but I am being forced to quit (due to the age limit). I have to retire. I have achieved everything in my life,” Mary said during an event.

    Mary Kom’s achievements in boxing have earned her the nickname “Magnificent Mary.” She has consistently excelled in the boxing ring and has been a trailblazer for women in sports, especially in a traditionally male-dominated field like boxing. Her dedication, skill, and perseverance have inspired many aspiring athletes, and she is widely regarded as one of the greatest female boxers in the history of the sport.

    As a five-time Asian champion, she also made history by winning the gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games, becoming the first Indian female boxer to achieve this feat.

    In the London 2012 Olympic Games, Mary Kom earned a bronze medal, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. 

    Subsequently, Mary Kom became the first Indian to secure a gold medal at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Her remarkable journey included World Championships titles in 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2010. Following her 2008 victory, Mary took a break after giving birth to twins. 

    Even after becoming a mother for the third time, Mary Kom continued to excel, clinching her eighth world medal a year later. This achievement stands as the most by any male or female boxer. Mary Kom’s extraordinary career is marked by resilience, dedication, and a string of historic victories.
