Kejriwal receives 5th ED summons in Delhi liquor policy case | Action Punjab

ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal for the fifth time in relation to an ongoing money laundering investigation connected to the Delhi liquor policy case.

Kejriwal has chosen to ignore the four previous summonses issued by the probe agency. The latest summons, issued on January 18, was slated for his appearance before the ED, but he skipped it, asserting that he was not an accused in the matter. During this period, Kejriwal was on a three-day visit to Goa alongside Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and other party leaders.

Earlier, the ED had issued a third summons to Kejriwal, scheduling his appearance for questioning on January 3. On this occasion as well, he opted to avoid the summons, deeming it “illegal” and citing the party’s engagements in preparation for the Rajya Sabha election in Delhi and Republic Day celebrations.

Prior to these instances, Kejriwal had declined to comply with the ED’s summons on two occasions—on November 2 and December 21 of the preceding year. On the latter date, instead of appearing before the ED, he attended a 10-day Vipassana meditation camp.

The ED’s repeated summonses are part of an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering associated with the Delhi liquor policy. The said policy was withdrawn by the Delhi government in July 2023 amidst corruption allegations. The unfolding developments underscore the intensification of the legal scrutiny faced by Arvind Kejriwal in connection with this significant financial probe.
