Rajpura and Ambala grapple with huge traffic chaos; roads blocked | Action Punjab

Rajpura/Ambala: Rajpura and Ambala experienced significant traffic disruptions as the police took proactive measures to manage the anticipated impact of a farmers’ tractor march organised by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur). The march, originating from Basantpura and heading towards the Sambhu border, prompted the Rajpura police to implement strategic road closures at Gagan Chowk, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters travelling between Rajpura and Ambala.

The decision to restrict vehicular movement was a preemptive measure aimed at maintaining public safety and preventing potential disturbances during the farmers’ protest. Ambala district witnessed similar road closures, with routes to Delhi and Amritsar sealed at key points, including Shambhu Toll Plaza and Saddopur border.

Senior police officials visited the affected areas to assess the situation. They said the sealing of routes and traffic diversions were deemed necessary to address the challenges posed by the ongoing farmers’ protest and maintain law and order.

The road closures have had a profound impact on daily life for residents and commuters, with reports indicating individuals resorting to walking to their destinations due to traffic standstill.
