'Delhi Chalo' protest: Centre, farmers' meet ends inconclusively | Action Punjab

‘Delhi Chalo’ protest: A team of Union ministers met with farmer leaders in Chandigarh on Monday to dissuade them from participating in the ‘Delhi chalo’ march.

According to sources, they discussed repealing the Electricity Act, 2020, and compensation for farmers who were killed in the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri.

The government and farmer groups reached an agreement to withdraw the cases filed against farmers during the year-long protest against the three now-defunct controversial farm laws.

However, the over five-hour meeting ended before both sides could reach an agreement on the demand for a minimum support price (MSP) guarantee law, a farm loan waiver, and the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations.

In the national capital, massive police and paramilitary deployments, as well as multi-layered barricades, have been used to seal off Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have announced that more than 200 farmer unions will travel to Delhi to press the Centre to accept their demands, which include the enactment of a law ensuring a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
