    Rohit Sharma surpasses Ganguly, becomes India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in international cricket | Action Punjab


    PTC Web Desk: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma achieved a significant milestone on Thursday as he surpassed former captain Saurav Ganguly to become the fourth-highest run-scorer in international cricket, accomplishing this feat during the fourth Test against England in Rajkot.

    In a stellar performance during the match, Rohit Sharma notched up his 11th Test century, scoring an impressive 131 runs off 196 balls, including 14 fours and three sixes, at a strike rate of 66.83. With this, Rohit’s international tally now stands at 18,641 runs in 470 matches, with an average of 43.35. His record includes 47 centuries and 100 fifties, with a highest score of 264.

    While Rohit has cemented his place as the fourth-highest run-scorer, the leaders above him in the Indian cricket record books are cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs), Virat Kohli (26,733 runs), and Rahul Dravid (24,064 runs).

    In Test cricket, Rohit Sharma has amassed 3,958 runs in 57 matches at an average of 45.49, featuring 11 centuries and 16 fifties. His highest individual score in the longest format is 212. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he has scored 10,709 runs in 262 matches at an average of 49.12, including 31 centuries and 55 fifties, with a best score of 264.

    Remarkably, Rohit excels in the T20I format, being the fifth-highest run-scorer for India with 3,974 runs at an average of 31.79 and a strike rate exceeding 139. He holds the record for the most centuries in T20Is and is the second-highest run-getter in the history of the format.

    Additionally, Rohit’s three sixes in the match propelled him to become India’s second-highest six-hitter in Tests, surpassing former captain MS Dhoni with a total of 80 sixes. Virender Sehwag holds the record for the highest number of sixes in Tests for India, with a total of 90.

    As India and England battle in the ongoing Test series, the match in Rajkot sees India opting to bat first. The series is currently level at 1-1, with India securing a win in the second Test at Visakhapatnam after a 28-run loss in the first Test in Hyderabad.
