HC seeks info on deployment of cops in politicians’ security in Punjab, Haryana | Action Punjab

Chandigarh, February 19:  In response to a public interest petition (PIL) filed by Mohali resident Nikhil Saraf, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has requested information from both Punjab and Haryana regarding the number of police personnel deployed at the residences of politicians, senior police officers and retired officials.

Nikhil Saraf, through his public interest plea, has contended that a large number of constables have been assigned to the residences of several senior officials and politicians in both Punjab and Haryana. These constables are reportedly engaged in various tasks beyond their regular duties, including security-related responsibilities and personal chores for the officials.

The petitioner highlighted that approximately 15 police constables are stationed at the residences of district chiefs and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), assisting with household tasks under the guise of security. He further claimed that similar practices extend to junior officials imitating their superiors, often accompanied by a significant entourage.

In light of these allegations, the petitioner has urged the Punjab and Haryana Court to reassign the additional police personnel currently deployed with these officials and politicians, placing them back on regular duty.

The High Court has now formally sought information from Punjab and Haryana about the number of police personnel, both active and retired, and their deployment status at the residences of officers and politicians.
