    Cop, Maoist killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker | Action Punjab


    ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: A police constable and a Naxal were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, according to officials. 

    According to police, the encounter occurred on Sunday morning during a search operation in a forest near Kanker’s Hidur village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Chhotebethiya police station. 

    The police constable, Ramesh Kurethi, died after being shot during the encounter. 

    The operation was launched in response to specific information about the presence of Naxalites in the Hidur forest, and a team of police officers left for the operation, according to the official. 

    According to IG Bastar Range P Sundarraj, the gunfight between security forces and Naxalites lasted around an hour.”In the encounter, constable Ramesh Kurethi lost his life after being shot,” the officer said. 

    Constable Ramesh Kurethi of the Bastar Fighters, a state police wing, hailed from Sangam village in Kanker’s Pakhanjhor. 

    The body of the Maoist, as well as an AK-47 rifle, were discovered during the search. 

    Police, BSF, and DRG are conducting a search in the surrounding area.
