    Kedarnath Dham to open on this date for pilgrims, check details | ActionPunjab


    Kedarnath Dham: Kedarnath Dham is a revered Hindu pilgrimage site located in the Rudraprayag district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, which are sacred representations of Lord Shiva.

    The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee recently announced that the gates of the revered Shri Kedarnath Dham, the eleventh Jyotirlinga, will be opened for pilgrims at 7 am on May 10 this year. 

    This announcement coincided with the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri.

    The pilgrimage will start with the departure of the Panchmukhi Doli on May 6, progressing through several halts before reaching the holy site of Kedarnath Dham by the evening of May 9.

    During winters there is a heavy snowfall and all the routes are closed for six months and at that time the idol is shifted to Ukhimath and reinstalled again during the month of April and May.

    Every year, the doors of Kedarnath are closed two days after Diwali, on the occasion of Bhai Dooj for the winter season and reopen in the month of April or May.

This ancient temple is believed to have been built by the Pandavas, the legendary figures from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The temple is constructed of large, heavy stones and is nestled amidst stunning mountain landscapes.
