China’s warning to India on central sector; a case of double-speak | Action Punjab

ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: China’s rebuke over Indian Army’s reorganisation plans in Central Command contrasts with PLA’s extensive presence in Eastern Sector.

Amid India’s proposal to reorganise Central Command troops to safeguard 565km of LAC with Tibet, Beijing’s criticism echoes hypocrisy, given PLA’s massive presence in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

Chinese spokesperson hinted at escalated border tensions if India reinforces Central sector, despite ongoing dialogues post-East Ladakh transgressions. PLA remains entrenched in Depsang Plains and Charding Nullah Junction.

India’s stance remains firm on PLA disengagement and de-escalation. Yet, despite media speculation, troop reinforcement plans in the Central Sector are only in proposal stages. Indian Army aims to trim manpower by one lakh. China’s territorial contestations extend to Barahoti plains and Palam Sumda, marked by deliberate PLA presence. However, India has no intention of exacerbating tensions in the Central Sector.

The proposed Dehradun-based 18 Corps aims to optimise response in Uttar Bharat region, adjacent to the Capital, without augmenting forces. China’s veiled warning against troop increase contrasts starkly with its covert deployment of six Combined Armed Brigades (CABs) in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. PLA’s intentions belie assertions of de-escalation.

Chinese rhetoric reveals a coercive approach reminiscent of its dealings with smaller nations. PLA’s omnipresence along the LAC underscores Beijing’s true agenda: maintaining status quo and pressuring India into normalization.

India, under the Modi government, refuses to acquiesce to such coercion, signaling resolve in safeguarding its territorial integrity against Chinese encroachments.
