Profile of Suchana Seth: From AI luminary to tragic incident | Know details

Suchana Seth, identified as the CEO of the start-up Mindful AI Lab, appears to be an accomplished figure in the realm of AI ethics, as reflected on her LinkedIn profile. Recognised among the ‘100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for 2021’, her profile emphasizes her expertise as an AI ethics specialist and data scientist, boasting over 12 years of experience in guiding data science teams and expanding machine learning solutions across startups and industry research domains.

Seth’s professional journey includes pivotal roles as a Mozilla Fellow at Data & Society, a fellowship at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Centre, and a research fellowship at the Raman Research Institute. Additionally, she holds patents in natural language processing, further solidifying her standing in the field.

However, recent events have cast a somber shadow on Seth’s professional acclaim. On January 6, she checked into a rented service apartment in North Goa’s Candolim, accompanied by her son, as confirmed by Paresh Naik, the inspector at the Calangute police station.

After a brief stay, Seth informed the apartment staff of her intent to travel to Bengaluru for work and sought a taxi for the journey. Despite the staff’s suggestion of a more economical flight option, she insisted on a taxi and departed early on January 8.

Upon the apartment staff’s inspection of her vacated room, they discovered bloodstains on a towel, alerting the management, who promptly notified the Calangute Police. Concerns grew as Seth departed without her four-year-old son, carrying an unusually heavy bag.

Police inquiries with Seth uncovered unsettling details. She attributed the bloodstains to her menstrual cycle and claimed her son was with a friend in Margao, providing an address. However, investigations by Fatorda Police revealed the address provided was false.

Prompted by these inconsistencies, the police intercepted the taxi in Chitradurga district, Karnataka, discovering the child’s body in Seth’s bag. A team from Calangute Police swiftly obtained a transit remand for Seth’s return to Goa. Authorities have notified Seth’s husband, Venkat Raman, who is currently in Jakarta, about the tragic incident, as investigations into this harrowing case continue.
