    List of traditional foods to include in Lohri thali | Action Punjab


    Lohri 2024: The auspicious harvest festival of Punjab – Lohri is around the corner and the enthusiastic people across the country are gearing up to celebrate the occasion with a lavish feast, bonfire, and some bhangra.

    Symbolising the ripening of winter crops, delicious food, enjoyment with family and friends, along with traditional folk songs and dance, Lohri is widely celebrated by the people of Haryana and Punjab, particularly by the Hindu and Sikh communities. 

    Lohri is incomplete without some appetising, traditional foods which we list here.

    Makki ki Roti and Sarson da Saag

    This traditional Punjabi dish is perfect for serving in your Lohri thaali. The simple combo of Makki ki Roti and Sarson da Saag is also the best-loved and one of the most celebrated Punjabi delicacies.

    Chole Bhature
    This quintessential North Indian dish is relished by one and all can be easily cooked at home

     

    Gur ki Gajak
    One just can’t imagine celebrating Lohri without Gur ki Gajak, a traditional recipe of Punjab. This sweet is also easily available in the market during the winter season.

    Atta Laddoo
    It is one of the most popular North Indian sweets. You can make these by using just four simple ingredients: wheat flour, sugar, dry fruits and ghee.

    Til ki chikki

    The square-shaped flat sweet made with sesame seed and jaggery will please your taste buds. To add a little chef-touch to the sweet, brittle it with a hint of cardamom

    Gajar ka halwa

    One of the dishes for which foodies wait for the winter season or Lohri is ‘Gajar Ka Halwa’. The dessert which is prepared from red carrots and milk is one of the mouth-watering dishes anybody could crave for.

    Pakode

    Quick and crispy ‘fritters’ are served as starters to the main course. Onion, potato, cauliflower, chilly florets are spiced and dipped into gram flour batter, and fried till they turn crispy golden brown. They are mostly served with green coriander chutney or else can be served with red tomato ketchup too.
