High Court suspends website claiming to deliver ‘Ram Temple prasad for free’ | Action Punjab

ACTION PUNJAB NEWS Desk: The Delhi High Court has suspended ‘Khadi Organic,’ a website that claims to deliver “Ram Mandir prasad for free” following the consecration event, media reports stated.

According to the high court, the website attempted to monopolise the event by preying on public’s religious beliefs and devotion.

Though the website claimed to deliver the Prasad for free, it charged Rs.51 from Indian customers and USD 11 from foreign customers as a “delivery charge.” According to the people mentioned above, it was also seeking public donations to support the initiative.

The court issued the suspension order on January 18 in response to a lawsuit filed by Khadi and Village Industries Commission, a registered proprietor of the trademarks ‘Khadi’ and ‘Khadi India’. The commission alleged that Khadi Organic was defrauding the public by creating a false association with the commission’s trademark ‘Khadi’ and openly promoting their website as the “official website for the sale of Ayodhya Ram Mandir Prasad”.

The case also stated that the owners of the rogue website could not misappropriate the ‘Khadi’ mark and give the false impression that ‘Khadi’ and ‘Village Industries Commission’ were associated with the Shri Rambhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

The commission also stated that, in response to several customers calling the website a scam, Khadi Organic’s owner, Ashish Singh, hosted a live question and answer session on its YouTube channel in which he clarified that the distribution of ‘so-called prasad’ was a private initiative and was not overseen by Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Singh also stated during the session that the website had received orders totaling nearly Rs.20 lakh as of January 14.

The court determined that the website deceived customers into transferring money using the Khadi and Village Industries Commission’s goodwill and obtained money fraudulently without providing a confirmation receipt or proof of dispatch.
