HC notice to Punjab Govt over crores in losses incurred by PUNBUS | Action Punjab

PTC Web Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the Punjab Government, demanding a response on the losses of crores incurred by PUNBUS in the past year. The High Court has requested an investigation and audit by a central agency regarding this matter.

PUNBUS, responsible for taxation and insurance of standing buses, has suffered losses ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 300 crore in the past year.

In connection with the case, Harjinder Singh from Fazilka has filed a public interest petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court through advocate Chetan Bansal.

The petitioner informed the High Court that PUNBUS holds permits for over 2,000 buses, but currently operates only around 1,200 buses. Approximately 568 buses are standing idle, incurring taxes. This has resulted in losses amounting to crores over the past year. The High Court has been requested to order an audit by a central agency, such as the Controller and Auditor General, to reveal the extent of the government’s losses and bring the actual situation to light.
