PTC Web Desk: In a recent development, prominent West Bengal BJP leader Sabyasachi Ghosh was arrested on Friday for his alleged involvement in running a prostitution racket in Howrah. This revelation comes at a crucial time, with the BJP strongly condemning the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the Sandeshkhali incident, where multiple women have accused TMC strongman Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates of sexual exploitation.
The Trinamool Congress has intensified its criticism of the BJP, asserting that the Bengal Police uncovered a prostitution racket operating in Sabyasachi Ghosh’s hotel in Howrah. The TMC accused the BJP of “shielding pimps” rather than safeguarding women. In an official statement on its social media handle, the TMC stated, “@BJP4Bengal leader Sabyasachi Ghosh caught running a PROSTITUTION RACKET of MINOR GIRLS in his hotel in Howrah’s Sankrail. The Police arrested 11 accused & rescued 6 victims from the spot. THIS IS BJP. They don’t protect BETIS, they protect PIMPS!”
Meanwhile, a BJP delegation, led by MP Locket Chatterjee and MLA Agnimitra Paul, seeking to address the Sandeshkhali issue, was barred from visiting the area by the police, citing prohibitory orders. Paul claimed, “We were denied entry to Sandeshkhali by the police citing prohibitory orders. The state government is trying to hide the truth.”
Adding to the complexity of the situation, a National Human Rights Commission team is conducting an on-spot inquiry in Sandeshkhali to investigate allegations of human rights violations. Several women in the region have accused TMC leaders, including Sheikh Shahjahan, of systemic sexual exploitation and land grabbing. Shahjahan, currently in hiding, has close aides Shibaprasad Hazra and Uttam Sardar, both TMC leaders, who were arrested after the police received complaints from women in the area.
